High-profile fans help 'Walker'
Bowie, Harold help pic get to bigscreen

In making his Panorama screener "Scott Walker: 30 Century Man," director Stephen Kijak got help from a small but devout community of Walker fans that include David Bowie and American actor Gale Harold.
The enigmatic American singer, who has long resided in the U.K., still enjoys a loyal following there but in the U.S., he's largly unknown.
As a member of the Walker Brothers, the singer enjoyed huge success in the U.K. in the 1960s but developed a vastly different style after going solo. He released his most recent album, "The Drift," last year.
Getting Bowie on board the film at the onset was one of Kijak's main priorities. A longtime fan of Walker, Bowie was intrigued by the idea and agreed to lend his name to the project.
Seed money for the film came from a more unlikely source in the form of Harold, who appeared as Wyatt Earp on "Deadwood" and played the promiscuous Brian on the Showtime hit "Queer as Folk." Kijak met Harold at the Tribeca Film Festival and as the conversation turned to music, Harold outed himself as a huge Walker fan.
"I could not have made this film without Gale. He loves Scott Walker."
Kijak produced the pic with London-based partner Mia Bays with additional financial backing from producer Elizabeth Rose. Pic, which has received strong reviews, will be released in the U.K. in April by Verve Pictures. Moviehouse Entertainment is selling "Scott Walker" at the EFM.
Kijakwill next helm a "Red Room," a horror film based on his own script. In "Red Room," a creepy apartment in the East Village has a sinister effect on its occupants. |
